Mangalore, June 13, 2014: In a press note, Deputy Director, Fisheries Department, Mangalore, states that the Karnataka Government has banned deep-sea fishing by mechanised boats along Dakshina Kannada and Udupi coasts from June 15 to August 10.
The department banned fishing for 57 days in the undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi region, as per normal annual practice.
Mechanised boat owners who ignore the ban and go for deep-sea fishing will be acted on and will cease to be eligible for all benefits given by the Government normally. It is desired that a mechanism to prevent fishing activity be put in place to strictly implement the ban.
