Mangaluru, June 06, 2019: The Headquarters Coast Guard Karnataka joins the Global Campaign of #Beat the Air Pollution” and #Take the Mask Challenge on World Environment Day on 05 Jun 2019 with passionate partakers from various walks of life at its facilities spread over across the Karnataka.
The inauguration of the event was steered with “The Green Wave campaign” which envisioned to augment workable green cover in the Coast Guard facilities and neighborhood spreading the message “When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and the seeds of hope”.
As a part of International Environmental Campaign cleaning of beaches alongwith Special Community Interaction Programme for coastal folks was also launched emphasizing the relevance of #AirPollution.
Volunteers were drawn from Coast Guard platforms alongwith Civilian Staff, Office Support Staff besides prominent guests from various walks of life. The event Coordinator Dy Comdt Deepika Dhiman highlighted this year’s theme of World Environment Day with opening remarks of this day being the "people’s day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be local, national or global. It can be a solo action or involve a crowd. Everyone is free to choose.The environment is the key to a better society which will lead the world in totally different and better way. An environment gives us many things and in return, we are only supposed to take care of it. There are many tangible and intangible possessions that are gifted us by nature. If we save our environment, then it will save us.
Deputy Inspector General SS Dasila, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka reiterated that for healthy living, environment plays an important role. It provides us air, food, etc. It is correctly said that ’ the difference between animals and humans is that animals change themselves for the environment, but humans change the environment for themselves’. Environment is just like our neighbourhood, its surrounding conditions influence us and modify growth and development.We can’t stop breathing but we can do something to improve the quality of air that we breathe.
