Mangaluru, May 16, 2017: Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Savitribai Phule evacuated Mr. Hong Jiangyu, a 31 years old Chinese crew from Motor Tanker (MT) Sea Dragon (IMO No. 9014456), 25 Km off Mangalore in the morning on 16 May 2017.
MT Sea Dragon, a Liberia registered, 230 Mtrs long LPG carrier was cruising from Singapore to Fujairah, UAE. The ship reported that a Boilerman, Mr. Hong Jiangyu had sustained injury on the index finger of his right hand and needed immediate evacuation.
On receipt of information, Coast Guard Karnataka Headquarters at Mangalore, diverted ICGS Savitribai Phule, to render assistance at 07:15 AM on 16 May 2017. The ICG ship, commanded by Commandant Manish Kumar proceeded with maximum speed and reached near MT Sea Dragon at 07:40 AM and dispatched its medical team. Medical team found that Mr. Hong Jiangyu had serious injury on index finger of his right hand. After providing first aid, the injured crew was shifted to ICGS Savitribai Phule safely. Thereafter, the Coast Guard ship arrived New Mangalore harbour and handed over the injured Chinese crew to shipping agent for further medical treatment at 08:50 AM on 16 May 17.
Deputy Inspector General SS Dasila, the Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka expressed his satisfaction over the swift medical evacuation and stated that every life at sea is precious and all out efforts will be put in to safeguard life and property at sea.
