Udupi, Oct 02, 2014: Several people cutting across party lines including Udupi CMC members as well as members of the Udupi Chamber of Commerce joined hands in a cleanliness campaign launched in the city on Gandhi Jayanthi day on October 2, Thursday as part of Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the campaign by garlanding the statue of the Mahatma near the Clock Tower.
The Minister also joined hands with others in cleaning up the city market, service bus stand and city bus stand area.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said cleanliness can be maintained in a city when public actively join their hands. This should be a continuous process, he added.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj also spoke on the occasion.
SS Pattana Shetty, Deputy Commissioner, Yuvaraj, CMC President, Amrutha Krishnamurthy, Vice President, Srikanth Rao, Commissioner and several others were present.
