Clash between two groups of pilgrims near Chowdamma Temple, Bisile claims one life

Sullia, June 5, 2013 : A clash that ensued between two groups of pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada  and  Hassan districts, near the famous Chowdamma Temple at Bisile on the borders of DK and Hassan districts, culminated in the death of one person hailing from Sakleshpur.


Clash 1According to sources, on June 4, Tuesday, a group of around 25 persons from Sullia and Puttur taluks and another group of around 30 people from Sakleshpur taluk had arrived at the shrine for a pooja.  The fight is learnt to have occurred  after the two groups were having food after the pooja. It is said the men were in a drunken state.

Sources reveal that there arose an altercation when some members of the pilgrims group from Sakleshpur mocked at  the other group. Eventually, this culminated in a clash using utensils, ladles etc.


The group from Dakshina  Kannada later left  the place. However, one person from Sakleshpur, who was critically injured was rushed to Sadananda Hospital  at Subrahmanya, but the doctor declared him dead.

He is identified as Halappa (45). It is said several members of the group too were injured.

Subrahmanya, Sullia and Sakleshpur police visited the spot and are conducting investigations.
