Mangalore, Apr 23, 2012: The DK district administration, the Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishad, and the Department of Kannada and Culture jointly observed the 385th birth anniversary of Chatrapathi Shivaji, the Maratha ruler.
MLA Yogish Bhat said in his inaugural address that the state government has initiated formal celebration of Shivaji’s birthday from this year. Speaking about Shivaji, the MLA said that he was an able administration who practiced religious tolerance.
The chief speaker of the day was Mundod Dharmapal Jadhav who said that Shivaji dreamed of building a Hindu Samrajya, adding that he has become more popular than ever today, a fact that urged the government to declare his birthday as a holiday.
Among the dignitaries present were Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Gulzar Banu, CDA Chairman Nagaraj Shetty, and others.
