Mangalore March 31, 2011: Mangalore rose in wild celebration, following the spectacular victory of India over its long-time rival Pakistan. The city looked deserted on the day of the match, with thousands of fans sitting glued to their television sets as India battled against Pakistan for the prestigious World Cup. People could be observed watching the match in houses, shops, bars, restaurants, and TV showrooms. Although business was low and workplaces were deserted, nobody bothered.

The city cheered whenever a Pakistani wicket was felled, and when the Indian team emerged victorious, people celebrated by distributing sweets, bursting firecrackers, and congratulating one another. Some were observed carrying the Indian flag around, and even little children joined the fun. Cricket fans danced, sang, and even organized live music events.

Young cricket fans took rounds of the city on their motorbikes, cheering the victorious team by yelling and honking. They shouted slogans such as Indian Zindabad, Sachin Zindabad, and Dhoni Zindabad.

Cricket clubs in places such as Ashoknagar, Urwa, Lady Hill, Valencia, and others distributed sweets. A large crowd of fans positioned itself outside City Centre and distributed sweets to everybody. They also performed various stunts on their motorbikes on K. S. Rao Road, while the police stood around, ensuring that there was peace and order.
