Mangaluru, June 10,2017: A press note recived here informs that  Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru, near Mangaladivi, has been organizing Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan for the last two and a half years on a special request from the union government. Presently the Abhiyan completed its 3rd phase and more than 60 groups in different parts of Mangaluru and sub-urban areas were actively involved in the cleanliness drives and the abhiyan was successful in creating awareness on  hygiene and cleanliness among the general public. The programme completed 400 cleanliness drives in its 3rd phase on May 28, 2017, and went on to 416 drives on June 4.

Swacch Abhiyan

A planned monsoon break will be given in the ongoing Abhiyan, which will resume from October 2017. Hence concluding programme of the 3rd phase of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan will be held at Ramakrishna Ashrama at 10 am on June 11, 2017. Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, Vice President, Ramakrishna Math and Mission will preside over the function. H K Patil, Karnataka State Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj will be the chief guest of the event. Dr. N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA J R Lobo and other dignitaries will take part in the event.

Since last year, Ramakrishna Mission has taken up special initiative of distributing branded clothes to poor and needy people from rural areas. Last year about 6000 people had benefitted from this programme. This year, Ashrama has plans to reach out to 10000 people of rural areas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This programme will be inaugurated at the function on June 11, it is stated.
