Child rights panel to ensure action in girl’s death

Uppinangady, Jan 29, 2018: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) chairperson Kripa Alva said that legal action will be initiated against those who were responsible for the death of Jaibunissa, a student of K R Pete Navodaya Minority Residential School in Mandya.  Jaibunissa had ended her life on January 24.

She said that the education department officials from Mandya and teachers of K R Pete Navodaya Minority Residential School will be asked to appear before the Commission within a week for an investigation into the issue.

Kripa Alva met the parents of Jaibunissa at her house in Ninnikal in Uppinangady on Sunday. “I have spoken to Jaibunissa’s parents, sister and brother on the condition at the residential school. According to their statement, there are a few problems at the residential school which will be verified.”

Further, she said that she will also seek a report from the police station.  Alva said that she will hold talks with the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait to conduct a probe into the issue by the education department.
