Mangalore, March 16: A 200-strong delegation of technical staff, railway officials, and others arrived at Subrahmanya by special train on Tuesday to study the feasibility of introducing a Mangalore – Bangalore daily day train. The team was led by Kuldeep Chaturvedi, the general manager of South Eastern Railway.

Before reaching Subrahmanya, the team inspected Donigal, Yedakumeri, and Arebetta railway stations, which are situated on the Ghat sections from Sakleshpur to Mangalore.

Chaturvedi told reporters that railway facilities will soon be upgraded. Regarding the limited number of compartments in the night train, he said that this is to ensure customer safety on the Ghat tracks.

While stating that trains can be safely run along this track and that the technical department has already approved the proposal, he said that he has no power to issue statements. He said that he will submit a report to the railway ministry recommending the running of a daily day train along this track and voiced his opinion that the project will materialize only if it is given a place in the union government’s supplementary budget.
