Charmadi Ghat fire destroys 60,000 acres of forests

Belthangady, Jan 6, 2016: Fire along the Charmadi Ghat has been raging from the past three days and is said to have destroyed about 60,000 acres of forest area. Officials state that the fire was still to be brought under control and was a tiresome process as strong winds have been blowing in the region.

Fires on several peaks in Moodigere: Hosamanegudda, Ramanagudda, Dodderi Betta, Madagundi, Durgada Betta and Kalpanemara have led to destruction of forests. Officials say that apart from winds, vehicles were not able to reach the spot and that led the fire spreading to further areas. If the fire was not brought under control, there are chances of it spreading to Kudremukh, Menasina Hadya, Hunasebetta, Kottigehara and neighbouring areas.

Authorities say that the fire was not natural and might have been ignited on purpose.

Forest fire is risky and needs to be controlled . Otherwise it will destroy the whole region and greenery will be washed forever in that region . Western Ghats is the wealth and its our duty to preserve it.

The people who went on trekking might have put the fire as its winter or due to friction when the stone hits to other the fire might have caused. Save the CHARMADI ghat from this forest fire. Hope its stopped.

Talking about how the region got fire is a waste , But how to control fire from spreading to a vast area due to the wind is the question.
