Musthafa said that the members of association urged the concerned department to give mercy killing in order to avoid the huge loans taken to establish their business, but the street vendors surrounded by the central market have snatched the daily bread of vendors.

He also said that Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) collects tax upto Rs 84 lakhs from the licensed merchants. The merchants have to pay the electricity bill and rent, in spite of this, the MCC officials have failed to respond to our demands. The merchant’s keep on submitting memorandum frequently to deputy commissioners, MCC commissioners, traffic police but no action has been taken so far.

Licensed merchants are not against the street vendors, but they can conduct their business near Nehru Maidan or Town Hall, but not near Central market will affect the business of licensed merchants. Some of the Street vendors also sell Ganja and liquor to the customers, which will spoil the health of people, he added.
