Cataract surgery proves costly; Karkala man loses eye sight

 Karkala, Dec 24, 2013: A 65 year old man lost his vision in his right eye reportedly after undergoing a cataract surgery in a hospital after getting his eyes examined at  a free eye camp organised at Jarigudda in the town recently.


loses eye2Mohammad Usman  of Jarigudda was the man who was unfortunate to lose his vision. It is learnt he had   participated in a eye camp organised at the taluk government hospital in March this year in association with  a famous eye  hospital.

 It is learnt, Usman had visited the camp and had got his eyes  examined when doctors said  he had cataract which need to be operated upon. Accordingly, as per the doctor’s advice he had visited the hospital  on March 29, 2013 where he had undergone a surgery and was released on April 1. But he has lost his right eye sight since then.  Mark of injury can be seen in the white of his eye and he recalls how his eyes used to be swollen with the passing of each day.

He has alleged that doctors at the hospital have  tried to convince him that everything would be alright very soon. It is learnt Usman who feels there is some problem in his left eye too is undergoing treatment under another eye surgeon at Udupi.

 Mohammad Usman a tailor by profession is at a loss now as he is unable to carry on his work. His family including his wife and two daughters are struggling to eke out a living. Already his wife Latifunnisa has lodged a complaint with the SP seeking justice in the case.
