Cash in bag lifted from car at Balmatta

Mangaluru, July 23, 2015 :  The Mangaluru North police said,   a businessman’s attention was diverted and Rs. 8.5 lakh in cash stolen from his car on Balmatta Road on July 22 afternoon. This is the second such incident in a fortnight. 


TheftA dealer in fish of Goa, had to pay an amount to one  Mehaz and Hameed of Ullal. He left from home in his car with Rs. 3.5 lakh.


He withdrew Rs. 5 lakh from Axis Bank branch near Bunts Hostel Circle. A total of Rs. 8.5 lakh in cash was kept in a laptop bag. The police said Aziz and his wife Ansara Begum went towards Balmatta Road where they stopped the vehicle near Syndicate Bank’s branch. Aziz’s wife got out of the car and went to the Syndicate Bank there.


While he  waited in the car, a person approached and tapped windshield and showed some currency notes that had fallen near the car. Then another person  came and pointed towards three Rs. 10 notes that had fallen at the rear end of the car. Aziz came out of the car.  Soon after  Aziz saw the bag containing cash missing. This is the second such incident reported in the last 15 days. On July 6, the attention of Adid Ansar was diverted and Rs. 50,000 kept on the rear seat of his car stolen, at Nellikai Road.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) K. Tilakchandra suspected the involvement of a three-member gang.  He has asked people to exercise caution while carrying amounts of cash.
