Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2015 : As many as seven sailors on board a mini cargo vessel bound to Mangaluru from Lakshadweep were rescued after their ship capsized nearly eight kms off the dock here on January 12, Monday. The ship named “Vijayalakshmi” was travelling from Kiltan in Lakshadweep and reportedly suffered from some technical problem leading to its capsize.
All the seven sailors including the captain from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu managed to save themselves by clinging on to wooden planks for almost seven hours till some fishermen on a boat noticed them and rescued them.
The rescued sailors are Muttu (45), Manikantan (26), Raghuraman (24), Karunanidhi (42), Krishnan (37),Manikyavelu (39) and Pannirselvam (59).
