Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Mar 29, 2017: The police personnel in seven policing units in Karnataka will get access to clean drinking water this summer, thanks to the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSPHIDC) Ltd. The award winning entity of state police including one for the best managed government corporation with a turnover of Rs 100 crore to Rs 500 crore is shelling out Rs 42 lakh from its profits under CSR to slake the thirst of police personnel.

CSRDistrict police units that have received funds from Corporation to set up water purifier units during 2016-17 include Tumakuru, Dakshina Kannada, Vijayapura, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru and Raichur. In Dakshina Kannada district policing unit, water purifier units have been set up at Sullia, Puttur Town, Uppinangady and Bantwal town police stations respectively and at the DAR police premises on the district police office using allocated CSR funds.

With the corporation mandated to spend 2% of its profit for CSR activities, the corporation has decided to spend it on water purifier units, imparting skill training for drop out children of police personnel and for running knowledge centres (read computer training courses) for them as well. "Focus of CSR this year has been on water purifier units and unit officers have been given liberty to use funds allocated to them," says T Suneel Kumar, corporation chief.

"Since my funds (read profit that can be used for CSR) are limited, I have focused on water purifier for this fiscal. We will cover other police units under this project in the coming years," Suneel Kumar told TOI. Police units are not given specifications about water purifiers but to utilize the funds allocated in the best possible manner. In Dakshina Kannada, SP Bhushan G Borase has gone in for five such purifiers of 120 litre capacity including 60 litre storage, he noted.
