Mangalore, October 15: The Karnataka Coastal Security Police (CSP) received five interceptor boats in order to tighten security along the coast. Built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), four of these boats are 12 tons and one is 5 tons. The Malpe base of the CSP now has a total of 10 interceptor boats.

During a special ceremony held to hand over the boats, IGP of Anti Terrorist Cell (ATC) Sanjay Vir Singh said that the central as well as the state governments have decided to tighten security along the 320km coastline of Karnataka, especially after the Mumbai attack. Currently, there are five CSP stations along the coast, but plans are afoot to establish four more stations, he added.


The new stations will be ready by Dec 2010 in Hejamady, Honnavara and Ankola in Uttara Kannada, and Kundapura in Udupi. Five stations are also functioning at Mangalore in DK, Kumta and Karwar in Uttara Kannada, Bhatkal, and Malpe, he added.
