Mangaluru Aug 12, 2016: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) picketed MESCOM office near Nehru Maidan on August 12 Friday protesting against the latter’s demand for additional security deposit from consumers.
Addressing the protesters, CPI(M) Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said that successive governments have made the life of the common man miserable by regularly increasing energy charges.
He said that, MESCOM has been demanding that consumers should pay an additional security deposit, ranging from 1,500 to Rs. 3000. The demand has made the condition of the common man and deprived sections miserable.
It is nothing but the day light robbery from the MESCOM. They have resorted to a similar tactic five years ago and had to withdraw the move following stiff resistance from consumers and organizations, said Sunil Kumar Bajal.
CPI (M) submitted memorandum to the chief engineer of MESCOM to withdraw the demand for additional security deposit from consumers.
Earlier, CPI (M) workers took out a protest rally from Mini Vidhana Soudha to MESCOM office.
District Committee member Jayanthi, Vasudev Ucchil and others were present.
