Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2015: The CPI(M) which has strongly deplored the recent statement of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Mother Teresa, staged a protest in front of the DC Office in the city on February 26, Thursday along with several Christian leaders.
Addressing the protestors, Vasanth Achari, District Secretary of the CPI(M), charged the RSS of trying to divide the society on religious lines. Alleging that minorities have been subject to frequent attacks in the nation in the recent past, he strongly refuted the RSS Chief’s statement that ‘conversion was the real motive behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor.
Onil D’Souza, Christian leader who also spoke, also criticised the RSS Chief’s statement and demanded that RSS should first serve the poor just like Mother Teresa did and then make such statements.
Yadav Shetty, another CPI(M) Leader said the party was determined to fight those elements which are trying to spread hatred and sow the seeds of differences in people.
Roy Castelino, Konkani Academy President, Muneer Katipalla, State President of DYFI, Vasudev Uchil and many others spoke.
Krishnappa Konchady, Fr Francis Almeida. Staney Alvares and Fr JB Crasta were prominent among those who participated in the protest.
