COVID: 40,000 people to be vaccinated in first phase in DK

Mangaluru, January 10, 2021: Mass vaccination against Covid will be undertaken in three phases in Dakshina Kannada district according to an official announcement. This was informed during a meeting convened by the District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Ramachandra Bayari on Saturday. The target for the first phase is to vaccinate about 40,000 people in the district. 20 venues have been reserved for Covid vaccination in the district.

In Udupi district 19,562 persons have been identified for vaccination in the first phase according to the Deputy Commissioner of the district G. Jagadish. This covers health workers of 867 institutions including 105 government health centres and 762 private health centres. The frontline workers like doctors, nurses and support staff will be vaccinated during this phase.

Meanwhile 37 new Covid cases have been reported in the district and 28 infected people have made full recovery. 20 new cases have been reported in Udupi district on Saturday.

In the suburban town of Bajpe, it was confirmed that the lecturer of a private pre-university college had contracted Covid. Hence the college has declared one week holiday as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the pandemic.
