COVID-19: 1,781 new cases in Karnataka, 17 deaths

Bengaluru, Nov 21, 2020:    Karnataka reported 1,781 new cases of COVID-19 and 17 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 8,69,561 and the death toll to 11,621, the health department said on Friday.

The day also saw 2,181 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Out of 1,781 fresh cases reported on Friday, 1,067 cases were from Bengaluru urban alone.

As of November 20 evening, cumulatively 8,69,561 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 11,621 deaths and 8,33,169 discharges, the health department said in its bulletin.

It said, out of 24,752 active cases, 24,213 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and stable, while 539 are in ICU.

Six out of the total 17 deaths reported today are from Bengaluru urban, followed by Mysuru (3), Dharwad (2), Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Dakshina Kannada, Raichur, Shivamogga and Tumakuru (1).

Most of the dead are either with a history of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) or Influenza-like illness (ILI).

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru urban accounted for 1,067, Mandya and Bengaluru Rural 66, Ballari 54, Tumakuru 48, Mysuru 46, Belagavi 38, Dakshina Kannada 36, followed by others.

Bengaluru urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 3,61,654 infections, followed by Mysuru 49,797 and Ballari 38,018.

Among discharges too, Bengaluru urban tops the list with total 3,39,942 discharges, followed by Mysuru 48,155 and Ballari 37,166.

A total of over 99,81,137 samples have been tested so far, out of which 1,21,612 were tested today alone, and 17,811 among them were rapid antigen tests.
