Mangaluru, May 20, 2018: As per a media release, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai signed an MoU with CHD Group in Mangalore. The MoU is build academic-field based partnership to further co-operation in public health risk reduction efforts and disaster management and translate science into community empowerment locally, nationally and internationally. The MoU will be in place for five years and pre-determined agendas will be taken forward in an organized manner. Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies will be the nodal point for the work that will be carried out between Tata Institute and CHD Group.
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.
CHD Group is a public health organization established in 2014 and now working with different governments, United Nation agencies, Corporate and academic institutes of excellence. Inspite of growing at a meteoric pace, CHD Group led by Dr. Edmond Fernandes has chosen to keep their head-office in Mangalore, Karnataka.
It is stated that the MoU was signed between the Registrar, Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Chief Executive Officer, CHD Group. Dean, Professor Janki Andharia received the MOU on behalf of TISS.
