Mangaluru, Sep 6,2017: The Campus Front of India staged a protest today at Ambedkar Circle, demanding the arrest of the killers of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh. The protesters shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi led BJP government.
Addressing the protesters, state president of CFI, Mohammed Shafi said, “We condemn the brutal murder of a social activist, a voice of the Dalits and the Minority and senior journalist Gauri Lankesh. In our country, people who raise their voice against corruption, discrimination, and injustice have been silenced. Gauri Lankesh never compromised with anyone over corruption or discrimination. We have lost a social activist who has taught us to fight for justice.
Gauri Lankesh had exposed the corruption of BJP MP Prahlad Joshi and a defamation case was filed against her. Narendra Dabolkar, Govinda Pansare, M M Kalaburgi were killed, but the killers have not yet been arrested. If the killers of Narendra Dabholkar, Govinda Pansare, M M Kalaburgi had been arrested ,Gauri Lankesh would not have been killed.”
Shafi further opined that after PM Narendra Modi came to power, anti-social elements have gained strength in the country. He felt that those who spoke up against corruption have been targeted. He reminded the gathering that not long ago, NDTV’s Prannoy Roy’s premises had been raided for speaking against the Modi government. “The voice of those who speak against the BJP government has been silenced. The cold blooded murder of Gauri Lankesh is the murder of democracy. Many social activists who fought for justice have been killed for raising the voice against injustice.”
Shafi also said, “Some anti-social elements are celebrating the killing of Gauri Lankesh by posting degrading comments on social media. Those who are celebrating her death are perverts. Action should be taken against those who post degrading comments against Gauri Lankesh. Progressive thinkers and social activists should be given security and the killers of Gauri Lankesh should be arrested soon.”
General Secretary of CFI Imran P J, Attaulla, Nizam and others were also present.
