CCE - A boon to enhance quality in CBSE Schools

Mangalore, Nov 5, 2011: Principals of schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) met at the Presidency School in Mangalore on Saturday to discuss the proposed Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system proposed by the union minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibbal. The meeting was organized under the auspices of the newly formed forum, Karavali Sahodaya Schools Complex (KSSC) which intends to bring the CBSE schools together in furthering the cause of primary and secondary education. The meeting was participated by Principals of 31 CBSE schools from the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Presiding over the session, Principal of Little Rock English School, Brahmavar, who is also the Chairman of KSSC, highlighted the salient aspects of the CCE scheme and mentioned that it was high on the agenda of CBSE as it would exponentially enhance the quality of education provided in the primary and secondary levels. He made a presentation on Monitoring and Mentoring of CCE .

The meeting also was a platform for sharing best practices incorporated in respective schools. It was also resolved that a series of workshops would be conducted on CCE inviting eminent personalities in the education sector.

The resource persons for the meeting, Principals of different schools who made their presentations on the subject included Abhilasha from SMS, Brahmavar, Kusum from Madhava Kripa, Manipal, Neetha Kishore from Dr. NSAM, Nitte, abd Geetha Venkatraman from Dr. Ramanna Shetty School , Thokur. The focal issues discussed through the presentations included formative assessment- as Pedagogy, importance of CCA as apart of the formative assessment, recording of  the Co-Scholastic areas grades and observations and how effectively a teacher can use the different tools and techniques in formative assessment, respectively.

The host Presidency School Principal Kailash Pawar welcomed the gathering and  Shreelatha Rao, Principal of BGS Education Centre proposed the vote of thanks.
