CCB cops arrest notorious criminal at Ullal; seize 3 bullets

Mangalore, June 19, 2014 :  The CCB police have arrested one Mohammad Hanif alias Mohammad alias Munna (30) of Uppala  in connection  with the  assault on a couple at Devipura, Talapady in Ullal by barging into their house on July 9 last year. It is learnt, the arrested person is an associate of notorious underworld dons Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogish.He was apprehended near the Ullal railway station on June 17, Tuesday.

Police said it was Hanif who had supplied pistol and bullets to the assailants who had  assaulted  the couple Keshava and Sadhana. They had first  assaulted Sadhana and when Keshava came to her rescue, they  tried to gun him down.

Three bullets and two cell phones have been seized from Hanif who is wanted in a number of cases and is said  to be the prime accused in a counterfeit currency case  reported in 2007. Police had then seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 25 lakhs smuggled from Dubai to Bangalore and had arrested Hanif.  However, he had gone absconding after he secured bail in the case. Police said Hanif was also an accused in the case of an attempt on the life of one Prabhaker Chowta of Manjeshwar in 2011 and in another case of threatening a Manjeshwar businessman and also in the case of attempt on the life of one Siddque.

Though Police had almost zeroed in on him in March this year, he managed to escape. The DRI too has filed cases against him in Kasargod, Konaje and Vittal police stations.

The operations were led by CCB Inspector Valentine D’Souza under the guidance of R Hithendra, Police Commissioner, Jagadish, DCP (Law and Order) and Vishnuvardhan, DCP (Crime).
