C. M. Udasi lays foundation stone for Vakeel Bhavan

Mangalore, Sep 1, 2012 : State PWD Minister C. M. Udasi laid the foundation stone for Vakeel Bhavan near the court premises on September 1, Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Udasi said that the state government has allocated Rs. 53 crore for the development of judiciary infrastructure, besides earmarking Rs. 26 crore for judges’ accommodation. He urged the legal fraternity to serve the people better.

D. V. Sadananda Gowda, former chief minister, said that projects worth Rs. 160 crore are now in progress, adding that the state government has taken the required steps to form law commissions, sanction grants to law colleges, introduce family courts, store all laws in one CD, and so on. The government has also planned an e-library for the Mangalore Bar Council, he added.

In his address, N. Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the legislative assembly, said that the new court complex will be inaugurated in four months. The Vakeel Bhavan will be constructed in one year, he added.


Justice Dr. K. Bhaktavatsal of Karnataka High Court said that the Vakeel Bhavan will help young lawyers to find opportunities.


Among those present were MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Justice K. L. Manjunath, Karnataka State Additional Advocate General K. M. Nataraj, DK District Chief Sessions Judge Ashok G. Nijaganavar, MLC Monappa Bhandary, and Mangalore Bar Council President Dr. S. P. Chengappa.


The Vakeel Bhavan will have 5 stories with a general auditorium, a women’s auditorium, a library, a canteen, changing rooms and toilets, a car parking facility, and a ramp connecting the bhavan to the court.
