Mangalore, Apr 19, 2014: Krishnapura near Suratkal observed a voluntary bundh on April 19, Saturday with traders downing their shutters in protest against alleged gunning down of a youth from the area by the Anti Naxal Force at Shringeri check post after mistaking the cattle transporters for Naxals. The incident took place during the early hours of Saturday.
A youth named Kabir (22) from Kukkady in Krishnapura fell victim after the ANF opened fire.It has been learnt that he along with others was transporting buffaloes in a Mahindra pick-up vehicle towards Kerala. Kabir was accompanied by his cousin Sarfaraz along with Rafiq, the driver and Pramod, the cleaner.
Sources said as their vehicle near Shringeri check post it was stopped for checking and Rafiq and Pramod alighted from the vehicle with the documents.The ANF which arrived at the place at that time, saw Kabir and Sarfaraz in the vehicle and suspecting them to be Naxals fired at them.
A case has been registered in Krishnapura police station.
