Mangaluru, Apr 06, 2016: A J Hospital & Research Centre in the city successfully harvested organs from 34 year old youth from Payyanur in Kerala, who died in an accident, on Tuesday.
Babu K V, 34 year old construction worker from Vadassery Village, Near Payyanur, Kannur District, Kerala had a fall from first floor while working at a construction site near Cheemeni in Payyanur.
Babu sustained head injuries and was rushed to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital and after first aid was shifted to A J Hospital. Babu was admitted to A J Hospital on April 2. He was declared brain dead on April 4 midnight.
Soon after learning the brain death, team at A J Hospital swung into action and approached Babu’s brother for the organ donation with the help of a journalist who is from their hometown. With the help of city police a green corridor was created to shift Babu’s liver to Bengaluru via Mangaluru International Airport. They are yet to decide about recipients of kidneys, hospital sources said.
Babu is survived by three year old daughter Diya, wife Sandhya, brother, father and mother. "Jeevanvileena" the organ donation awareness campaign by A J Hospital is yielding results and more people are volunteering / helping people donate organs, hospital sources said.
