Blood donation camp organised by UPCL stopped by fishermen.

Padubidri: June 25, 2015: The fisherman allegedly  obstructed a blood donation camp organised by the Adani Foundation and Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL) at Padubidri in Udupi district on Wednesday.

 

They alleged that the sewage discharged by the thermal plant of UPCL into Kamini rivulet had affected fishing and they had incurred financial losses.

The fishermen, who entered the venue of the camp at Government Model Higher Primary School during the inaugural function, and staged a protest.

Though UPCL officials requested them to stop their agitation, they were unrelenting. Meanwhile the police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the protesters. The camp was cancelled later. However, two other voluntary blood donation camps organised by UPCL at Inna School and Paniyur School went on unhindered.

Meanwhile, a UPCL official, who did not want to be named, denied the charges made by fishermen. “We will listen to their grievances and clear their doubts,” the official said.
