Mangalore, Dec 23, 2013: The police who are investigating into the case of the kidnap and blackmail of two medical students at Konaje recently, took all the eight arrested accused to the scene of the crime on December 22, Sunday.
The arrested are Naas (28) of Mudipu, Nisar (18) of Manjanady, Harshad (28) of Derlakatte, Sharfan Hussain (21) of Derlakatte, Shamsuddin (23) of Suratkal, Shameer (21) of Derlakatte, Iqbal (23) of Deralakatte, Rauf (22) of Deralakatte, Nawaz (28) of Mudipu and Sharfan Hussain (21) of Derlakatte. Three of them are said to be rowdy sheeters.
Sources said some of the accused had tried to assault Konaje police inspector Sudhaker while making the arrests. A complaint has been lodged in this regard alleging that the accused had come in the way of a police official in discharging his duties.
As already reported, the incident had taken place on December 18, at around 11 pm, when the two medical students of a private college at Derlakatte were sitting inside their car outside a bar. The accused had kidnapped them in a car, took them to an isolated house where they had taken obscene pictures and videos of the students.
They had then threatened the students to release the video clips and demanded Rs 25 lakhs. When the students had agreed to pay Rs 3 lakhs they were released. The girl had then lodged a complaint with Konaje police through a lady advocate.
Sources reveal that there are several such groups which are into the act of blackmailing businessmen just to extract money from them. It is also being learnt that some such groups were in touch with some students of institutions to get information about rich students.
Also alarming is the fact that some groups were also reportedly patronised by politicians the result of which is that police are pressurised to release them whenever arrested.
