Karkala, May 9, 2017 : A black leopard which had fallen into a well at Balehitlu in Hirgana during the early hours of May 8, Monday has been rescued by forest officials in a two hour long operation.
The suspicion is that the big cat might have landed in the well in its efforts to hunt for food. The well belonged to Rajaram Kadamba. He found the leopard in the well after he peeped inside on hearing some strange sound. The Forest Department was informed immediately.
The forest personnel with help from locals prepared a ladder of coconut fronds and dropped it inside the well. The animal which quickly climbed it was captured in a cage which was kept ready. It is likely to be released in the reserve forest area.
