It is learnt both of them are fishermen and are good friends. On Monday night at around  9 pm  Aboobakker had telephoned Saleeq after dinner and invited him for a fishing expedition. When both were heading towards the port, a seven member gang  which came by a car spoke to Aboobakker who knew one of them.

It is learnt that they offered a drop for the two. Accordingly both Aboobakker and Saleeq boarded the car when the assailants changed route and began to assault them. One of the assailants who was seated behind, held Aboobakker’s neck tight with a  cable and then  stabbed him in his stomach. They had then reportedly gagged the two and tried to set them on fire by dousing kerosene on them.

Saleeq  somehow managed to escape.  The assailants then  dumped Aboobakker on the roadside. Aboobakker who was battling for life on the roadside was noticed by the public much later. He was then shifted to a  hospital.

According to Aboobakker, the assailants  were running an organisation in Bhatkal which was  trying to disrupt peace. It is learnt they have even grabed land and made big money. He also said the assailants had some enmity with his friend Saleeq and that  he was assaulted for being in the company of Saleeq. He also said he has no hatred or enmity with anyone.

Bhatkal Police is investigating the case.
