Bengaluru, Nov 26, 2023: On the inaugural day of Kambala, Palace Grounds witnessed a massive influx of spectators eager to witness the impressive spectacle of buffaloes racing down the muddy tracks.

The resonance of drums and the melodic tones of kahale filled the air as a multitude of people gathered to observe the thrilling sight of buffaloes sprinting through slushy waters.

The allure of coastal Karnataka’s rich culture, featuring Pili Vesha (a folk dance adorned with tiger masks), yakshagana, finely crafted metal artifacts, and a diverse array of culinary delights such as neer dosa with chicken sukka, anjal tawa (fish), kori roti with Mangalore chicken curry, or chicken pulimunchi, transported attendees to the vibrant world of Tulu culture. Accompanied by rhythmic drumming and the indulgence in various dishes, the event became a perfect family outing.

Enthusiastic chants of ’Namma Kambala’ and ’Bengaluru Kambala’ resonated throughout the day, providing motivation to the jockeys who, in turn, were spurred on by the applause and whistles of the onlooking crowd.

While many in the audience were unable to secure seats facing the tracks, they opted to line up behind barricades or relied on the large LED screens strategically placed in the open area to witness the exhilarating runs.
