Mangalore, July 11, 2014: Residents as well as trades of Bendorewell-Balmatta-Kankanady area met Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim on July 10, Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting him to reconsider the one-way traffic rule that has been implemented on the Bendorewell –Balmatta Road by the Mangalore City Traffic Police.
The delegation apprised the DC that the one-way rule has hit hard the students of the local schools and college, people visiting hospitals as well as traders.
The delegation even drew the attention of the DC towards the fact that the new traffic rule has resulted in several accidents on the route and that in the absence of footpaths walking on the road has become a dangerous affair for the pedestrians.
Even several banks and government offices functioning in the area are hit hard, the memorandum said and pointed out that the one-way rule has made people pay more for autorickshaw travel as they have to cover an additional one to two kms.
The memorandum also appealed to the DC to act immediately before the one-way rule gave scope for more accidents.
Local corporator Naveen D’Souza led the delegation.
