Belthangady, Dec 4, 2015 : A man who was reportedly in love with an Anganavadi teacher, but was agitated ever since the latter’s family turned down the proposal, barged into the Anganavadi centre and chopped off the hand of the teacher before ending his life by shooting himself with a rifle on December 3, Thursday.
The deceased is Umesh Gowda (41), while the Angavanadi teacher Honnamma (37) who is seriously injured has been hospitalised.
Sources said the family of Honnamma which had initially agreed to give her in marriage to Umesh, had later backtracked when it realised that he was an alcoholic.
This had frustrated Umesh who, on two earlier occasions had reportedly attacked Honnamma at the Anganavadi centre. However, on Thursday he had arrived with a sickle and a rifle and used the sickle to chop off Honnamma’s hand and the rifle to kill himself a little distance away from the Anganavadi.
It has been gathered that Honnamma could save herself as she had rushed inside the Anganavadi and locked the door.
Belthangady police are investigating the case.
