Mangalore, April 29, 2014 : A man from Belalu in Belthangady taluk has been held guilty in the case of rape of a minor girl. The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced the man named Chandappa (34) to seven years of imprisonment.
This incidentally is the first ruling of the special court set up for speed disposal of cases of crime against women. The judgement was delivered by SH Pushpanjali Devi on April 28, Monday.
Chandappa had been earlier charged of raping a 17 year old girl on May 14, 2012. The victim was also a relative of his.
It is learnt, he had lured the girl to come with him in an autorickshaw after promising a job for her in Belthangady. He however took her to a hilly area in Malebettu where he raped her and warned of dire consequences if she divulged the matter before anyone.
The charge sheet was filed in the court by Belthangady Inspector Bhasker Rai. A total of 13 witnesses were heard.
