Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2015 :    Addressing media on Nov 19, City Mayor  Jecinta Vijaya Alfred, said that of the six-storey market complex, three floors were ready and they would be inaugurated by Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, and B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada. The inauguration is scheduled for 10 a.m.

More than six years after the foundation stone was laid for the first phase of the Rs. 4-crore Bejai market complex, the good day for inauguration is now stated to be Nov 21,  Saturday.  J. Krishna Palemar, the then Minister in-charge of district, laid the foundation stone on August 25, 2009.

The 674.47 sq m plinth area basement floor would have a drive way, parking and ramp facilities.   The 898 sq m plinth area ground floor would have provision for 10 commercial shops, three fruit shops, five vegetable shops and a flower shop. The first floor with same plinth area (898 sq m) would have provision for seven commercial shops, 12 fish outlets and two outlets each for selling dry fish, chicken, mutton, beef and pork. In addition, the floor would have provision for three general shops.

She said that Minister Sorake would launch the work of constructing footpaths and drains on nine concrete roads the same day. The Minister would inaugurate Durga Mahal-Bokkapatna Church concrete road, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.65 crore. He would lay the foundation stone for upgrading the road between Durga Mahal Junction and Kalikamba Junction at an estimated cost of Rs. 11 crore. The four-lane concrete road would be 1.2 km long and 12 m wide.


Footpath development works will be initiated at Bejai Battagudda Junction- Kadri New Road, Anegundi Cross- Bejai Museum, Lalbagh Junction - KSRTC Junction, Kadri Junction - Bunts Hostel, Bunts Hostel Circle-Jyothi Circle (drainage and footpath both and on either sides of the road), KSRTC Kuntikan Kapikad ninth cross to Kottara Cross,  A B Shetty Circle-Subhash Nagar Main Road and Hampankatta Railway Station Road - Nandigugga Circle. But, the vital State Bank bus stand area does not figure while the situation here is hazardous with thousands of passengers using the area daily.


Also, foundation stone would be laid for upgrading a stretch between Kankanady Junction and Retreat House (Valencia) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore. To a question, the Mayor said that 21 trees would have to be cut for upgrading the stretch. One side of the 1.5-km stretch had been upgraded into a concrete road. Another side is pending for upgrading to a 3.5-m-wide road.

Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chirapur, Council Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde, Town Planning Standing Committee Chairman Deepak Poojary and Standig Committee on Health Chairman Prakash Salian were present at the press meet.
