Mangalore, July 16, 2013 : Two persons have been arrested in Bhubaneshwar by the Mangalore police in connection the recent theft of precious idols from the Siddantha Mandir Basadi at Moodbidri.
The arrested is Kirtimoyee Mohanty, father-in-law of the main accused Santosh Das alias Chittaranjan Das and Digambar Mohanty.
The two were produced before a local court in Bhubaneshwar which directed that their medical tests be done. It is learnt the duo will be brought to Mangalore in a couple of days for further interrogation in the case.
Earlier, it was reported that a raid on the residence of Mohanty, an attender in the Urban Development Department of Government of Orissa had led to the recovery of ancient idols and also cash and ATM cards of various banks.
It is believed that the main accused Santosh Das has fled to some other state. Police have gathered that he was involved in stealing several ancient idols in different states and had once been arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police and even imprisoned. It is learnt, he was also involved in smuggling idols to Nepal.
