Bantwal, Feb 28, 2014: A meeting of farmers and landlords convened by Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim at the Sthree Shakti Auditorium at Bantwal on February 28, Friday to discuss the compensation issue of HPCL gas pipeline project, failed to yield results with the landlords walking out of the meeting halfway through.
It is learnt, no sooner the Deputy Commissioner began speaking at the meeting, Action Committee Principal Covnenor Ravikiran Punacha said the pipeline project would render the lands of farmers barren and they would not be able to undertake farming in the future. He also said the project will not be allowed at any cost.
The proposed gas pipeline will pass through Pilathabettu, Kavalapadur, Kavalamudur, Kadabettu, Moodanadugodu, Arala, Badagabellur and Kariangala in Bantwal Taluk.
Krishnamurthi, Special Land Acquisition Officer, Tahsildar Malleswami and others attended the meeting.
After boycotting the meet, the landlords and farmers later convened a meeting under the shade of a tree and discussed their future course of action. They also spoke about the protest meet scheduled to be held at AB Shetty Hall in Mangalore on March 4.
