Bantwal, Sep 29, 2019: In a bizarre case of what appears to be suicide pact, a mother and her two adult children along with their dog plunged into the Nethravathi river from the new bridge at Panemangalore late night on Saturday. Local residents who saw the event unfolding jumped to the rescue and managed to retrieve the mother identified as Kavita Mandanna (55). The villagers rescued the woman and the dog which was said to be clinging to her. But unfortunately she passed away en route to the hospital.
Her son Kaushik (22) and daughter Kalpitha (20) are said to be missing and efforts are on to find them.
According to sources the family is said to hail from Virajpet. It is said that Kavita’s husband had died on Saturday of heart attack. Her husband Kishan was said to be a businessmen and he had gone missing few days back. His body was found in Mysore and the family found it difficult to overcome the grief of losing him. Hence they decided to take the ultimate step.
They were traveling in an EECO car when they passed by the bridge. They stopped the car all of a sudden near the bridge and jumped into the river along with the dog, it is said. The vehicle bears Mysore registration number KA 09 MA 489.
Bantwal police are coordinating the ongoing rescue operation.
