The villagers of Kuriyala had organised a protest  demanding early repair of the  local road which was not asphalted since 25 years. The protestors had also blocked vehicles passing through the area and staged a black flag demonstration denouncing politicians.

Though it was initially claimed to be an apolitical protest, soon BJP and Congress leaders  were spotted at the scene of the protest giving a new twist to the agitation.

Some protestors  shouted slogans against District in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai and demanded that he visited the spot. This agitated Congress protestors who argued that even the BJP MP is equally responsible and must arrive at the spot. This led to a heated altercation between the two groups resulting in tension.

Finally, a few leaders who intervened tried to pacify the agitated members.

BJP leaders Sulochana Bhat, Ramdas Bantwala, G Anand, Amtady GP Chief Babitha Kotian and others were present.
