Bantwal, Mar 7, 2014 : In a rather queer case of burglary, thieves who stole cash and jewels from a house at Maripalla in Farangipete, even took away the physically and mentally challenged daughter of the house owner for the sole reason that she was a witness to the theft.
They then abandoned the 14 year old girl at an isolated place a little away from the house in the dead of the night, but not before hurling stones at a nearby house. Residents who woke up to the sound, heard the girl weeping and she was eventually rescued.
The theft took place in the house of Mariyamma near the National Highway 75. She stayed in the house along with her children and sister Zubaida. Her husband worked overseas. It is learnt, after the family members fell asleep, the thieves gained entry into the house by breaking the latch of the back door and stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 95000 including two gold chains. It is learnt, the 14 year old daughter saw the thieves who eventually took her along with them and then abandoned her two furlongs away from the house. Later the girl was rescued by locals at around 3.15 am.
A complaint has been lodged and Bantwal Rural Police are investigating the case. A dog squad and finger print experts too have been pressed into service.
