Bantwal ASI suspended for refusing to accept complaint of Thota Bengre rape victim

Mangalore Today News Network

Bantwal, Nov 30, 2018: Bantwal town police station’s Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Raghuram Hegde has been suspended by District Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda  for  dereliction of duty.

ASI.He had sent back the Thota Bengre gang rape victim who had approached his station on November 20 to  lodge a complaint and had asked her to file a complaint in the police station which falls in the jurisdiction of the area where the incident took place.

This is in contravention with the rules that permit a rape victim to file a complaint in any police station. The station can then transfer the case to the police station concerned after filing  a zero number FIR.

The victim in this particular case had later lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police station in Mangaluru following which a special police team had arrested all the seven accused including three minors.
