Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha to receive Samaga Award

Mangalore, July 28, 2012: The Samaga Award will be conferred on Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha at an awards ceremony in Don Bosco Hall on Aug 1, Wednesday. This award is given in honor of late Malpe Shankarnarayana Samaga, the legendary Yakshagana artiste.

Revealing the above information at a press meet held on July 28, Saturday, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, founder president of Kalkura Prathishtana, said that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will present the award to Balipa Narayana in the presence of Prof. M. L. Samaga, president of the Yakshagana Bayalata Academy; Kumble Sundar Rao, its former president; Dr. M. Prabhakar Joshi, Yakshagana scholar; and Surikumeru Govind Bhat, Nellikatte Narayana Hasyagara, and Dr. Kolyur Ramachandra Rao, senior Yakshagana artistes, among others.

Samaga Award

A show called Paramparika Yakshagana will be held on the same day at 4:00 p.m., during which rare Yakshagana practices such as Kattu Hasya, Hogalike Hasya, and Krishnana Oddolaga will be performed, said Mr. Kalkura.

A Yakshagana prasanga titled Hidimba Vivaha – Garuda Garva Bhanga will be presented from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., he added.

Janardhan Hande, Kadri Navneeth Shetty, and G. K. Bhat Seraje were also present at the press meet.
