Bajpe SI Pramod Kumar on leave, Congress cries foul

Mangalore Today News

Ivan DsouzaMangalore May 10: Congress leader Ivan D’Souza has accused the BJP of resorting to unlawful means to win the GP polls by sending Bajpe SI Pramod Kumar on holiday. He was addressing a press conference at Press Club on May 10, Monday.

He said that the SI has been given leave against the rules, pointing out that even if the SI has to go on leave, the District Election Commissioner’s permission must be obtained first. Ivan D’Souza said that the DC is refusing to issue any statement on why the SI has been given leave. The police station has refused to respond, he said and added that none of the police officers know where SI Pramod Kumar is at present. He said that the Congress and the local people of Bajpe will stage a protest in front of the police station on Sunday.

SI Pramod Kumar had summoned rowdies associated with the BJP and had made them sign Indemnity Bonds claiming responsibility for any untoward incidents that take place during the GP elections. Ivan D’Souza alleged that the SI had been sent on leave for this reason. He accused BJP leaders Nalin Kumar Kateel and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar of using their political clout to send the SI on holiday.

The Congress urged the Election Commission to file a case of misuse of power against the BJP and called upon the District Election Commissioner as well as the DC to take control of the situation in Bajpe because it has been identified as a sensitive zone. Ivan D’Souza warned that the Congress will intensify its protests if action is not taken immediately.

U. P. Ibrahim, Prithviraj Rai, Praveenchandra Alva, Oswald D’Cunha, and other members of the Congress party were present during the press conference.
