BJP to hold taluk level protests against amendment to Panchayat Raj Act

Mangalore, July 6, 2013:  The BJP has decided to launch  taluk level protests  in the district from July 8  to 11 opposing the amendment to Panchayat Raj Act. The protests are being held as part of a state wide agitation by the party.

Monappa Bhandari, MLC, informed that he will lead a protest to be held at Tokkottu on July 8. Similarly protests will  be held at Belthangady on July 9, at Puttur, Sullia on July 10, Moodbidri and Bantwal on July 11.

Party leaders including BJP National Vice President Sadananda Gowda, District BJP Chief Padmanabha Kottari, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Ganesh Karnik, MLC and  S Angara, MLA will lead the protests.

On the Amendment to the Act which makes Panchayat Presidents and Members accountable in case the Gram Sabhas are not held regularly, he said  the BJP opposed the same and added the officials should be instead made accountable.
