Mangaluru, August 25, 2019: The Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday paid tributes to former Union Finance Minister and senior party leader Arun Jaitley, who passed away in New Delhi in the afternoon.

State BJP president-designate Nalin Kumar Kateel led the mourners in paying tributes to the departed leader. He said Mr. Jaitley had successfully implemented demonetisation and played a crucial role in stabilisation of the economy.

The successful implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime was also because of his efforts, Mr. Kateel recalled. He also played a crucial role in scrapping Article 370, the Dakshina Kannada MP noted and termed Mr. Jaitley as the trouble-shooter of the party. He was one of the strongest backbone of the Narendra Modi-led government, Mr. Kateel said.

Several leaders, Sanjeev Matandur, including district BJP president and MLA, D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Y. Bharath Shetty, MLAs, former deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, Ganesh Karnik, former MLC, and others were present.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister, K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, and Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president of the district unit of BJP, mourned the death of Mr. Jaitley.

In a release issued here, Mr. Poojary said Mr. Jaitley had handled several portfolios at the Centre. He was known for his legal acumen. He had supported all initiatives of Mr. Modi. The country had lost a great leader, he said. Mr. Bhat said Mr. Jaitley’s demise was a huge loss to the country.

Mr. Hegde said Mr. Jaitley had worked in the Cabinets of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A gentleman politician, he had rendered invaluable contribution to the nation, he said.
