BJP demands probe into encroachments of waqf properties

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Oct 31, 2014:   Speaking to media,  Karnataka State Minority Development Corporation (KMDC) former chairman Aboobakar N B has demanded a probe into the alleged irregularities and encroachment of waqf properties in the State. He said that as per the report of the joint parliamentary committee there are about 30,000 waqf institutions in the State, which own 19,846 acres of land. There are 189 cases of encroachments on this land.

Aboobakar He said the four acre of land belonging Hazrath Yakeen Shah Wali Dargah is encroached and 2.3 acre of land belonging to Bada Makan is encroached.  He accused tht the government of failing to safeguard the Waqf property. Aboobakkar said 1.2 lakh acre of land was under the Waqf Board in the State, but only 19,846 acres was found registered as per the Waqf Act, 1995. This raises a question on what had happened to the remaining land. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should sack Minister for Municipal Administration, Haj and Waqf Qamarul Islam.

The BJP will send a memorandum on the issue to both the Union and State governments.  He said that previous BJP government had spent Rs 120 crore for the protection and development of the Wakf properties in five years. Besides, a survey was conducted in 33 Wakf properties and was computerised.   In Belgaum, around 200 acre of encroached Wakf property was reclaimed.  this is a serious issue that needs fervent action.
