Mangalore, Jun 2, 2013: The St Aloysius College Advanced Research Centre was inaugurated on June 1, Saturday by Sekar Basu, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai at a ceremony held at the Teletorium of St Aloysius PU College on June 1, Saturday.
In his address, Basu stressed the need for more encouragement to research projects in college level and said there can be collaborations with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in this regard.
Sekar Basu batted in favour of nuclear projects by stating any project involves risk as in case of nuclear projects. However, he claimed that nuclear projects is the least risky projects.
Pallavi, a research scholar in St Aloysius College, presented Basu with radiation flowers and stated that the plant’s name was Zinnia elegans var dreamland, the seeds of these plants are selected and irradiated using gama rays at BARC. The seeds are replanted in the fields and kept under observation and flowers of various colours have been obtained. She said.
Rector of St Aloyius Institutions Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo , Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal, Dr. Stan D’Souza, Scientist , BARC Dr. A M Narahari, Registrar St Aloysius College, Dr. Richard Gonsalves, Director,St Aloysius college Advanced Research Centre and several others were present.
