Mangaluru, Dec 18, 2016: Almuzain White Stone MPL 20-20 flood-lit cricket tournament organised by the Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy at the NMPT stadium at Panambur on December 17, Saturday was inaugurated by India’s former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, at a colour ceremony marked by grandeur and glitz.
Speaking on the occasion, Azhar said such tournaments gave a wonderful opportunity to local talents to display their cricketing skills. Pointing out how local talents like KL Rahul could make it to the national team, Azhar said there might be many more talents who could follow his path and encouraged the youngsters.
Appreciating the organisers of the event, Azhar also said that the state government must come forward to construct an international stadium for Mangaluru.
MLA Moidin Bava, District Congress President, Entrepreneurs BM Farooq, Iftiqar Ali, Panambur ACP Rajendra and sponsors of MPL were present.
After the inaugural there was an exhibition match between the organisers’ team led by Azharuddin and the Coastal wood stars team.
A total of 12 teams will be part of this 35 match tournament spread over 14 days.
